Kinja'd!!!

Fiancé had a bunch of her friends from school come in for a bridal shower. X5, XC90, RX350, Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, Tiguan.

Women (and me admittedly, but mine in wagon, not lifted form) love these things.

Okay, so what exactly is a ‘crossover’, apparently I got it wrong when I mentioned a Skoda Octavia Scout which is like the Skoda version of an Audi Allroad) and a Skoda Yeti (which is an SUV).

Crossovers are small SUVs. It’s a marketing term more than anything.

I consider a crossover the X6, it’s like a tall 5 series. An XC90 etc.. are just SUVs.

Ive always considered anything that could be lowered and called a wagon a crossover. 2 rows with sloped rear end (basically not a Tahoe) - crossover

We have Suburbans/Escalades/Sequoias/Expedition XLs here so anything smaller then those SUVs are crossovers.

Found a nice size comparison. The 3rd and 4th ones from the right are what I call crossovers. The 2 furthest right are SUVs

I feel like at least in the US, SUV’s are the body on frame type (Tahoe, Armada, Yukon, etc...) and Crossovers are unibody (Traverse, Pathfinder, Acadia, etc...). Crossovers can be called SUV’s but not the other way around.

That Octavia and the Outback are lifted wagons, not different enough from a wagon to be a Crossover. The Yeti is both a Crossover (unibody) and a SUV (overall shape).

So the Skoda Octavia Scout is a Crossover then. It’s an estate which is raised and plastic trim added round the lower valences (as mentioned, like an Audi Allroad).

I fucking hate these things. I’ve only ever lived in the upper class suburbs and they’re like a rolling monument to complacency, domesticity, entitlement, and materialism.

...Yeah, I’m trying to get out of here. Not very successfully.

Haha I like living in my upper class suburb. I dont mind the RX because it means shes a little bit higher and theres a bit more weight on her side in the event of anything happening. Also, the storage isn’t bad and she likes the seating position for a girls who is 5'2".

Haha compared to the American mess of names, i would almost still call that a wagon. Its such a mess though. I like the wagons though and want one. A lexus LS600H Estate/Sportcross would be perfect.

If they were where I live they’d all have their initials and/or Salt Life stickers on the back windshield.

From a European market perspective almost everything tall that isn’t a minivan/MPV, Toyota Landcruiser, Merc G, or Land Rover is a crossover. Crossovers are vehicles to go shopping in and bringing your (grand)kids to football practice, all while putting less strain on your hips while getting in/out of the car. They are not designed as offroaders or work vehicles, even though some could be used like that in a limited fashion. They’re just like regular cars, but taller and maybe with some extra body cladding. Like an MPV with ‘tough’ costume.

That, at least, is how I see it.

Eeh, not quite. The Skoda, Allroad, new Golf Alltrak...they're lifted wagons. A CUV needs a taller greenhouse than an estate / wagon.

Across the pond it seems it’s very different. I thought it was how you describe it but not over there.

From responses it seems there are different views on what makes a crossover.

A crossover is an SUV That can’t go off road or tow more than your average mini van.

Really it's an SUV that is car base rather than Truck based.

Suburban life is good for a numerous of things! Most importantly I don’t have to worry too much about where I park my Integra.

Haha.. The only integra not stollen? Earlier today I left my LS400 running, unlocked, with my dog in the backseat for like half an hour in front of the house pictured and was more worried about the dog jumping out the window and not it being stollen in the least bit.

Still a popular choice (there’s even a sorority girl Jetta in that picture) but the SUV/CUV/Crossover has taken the gauntlet.
